Adjusted storyboard

Here is the adjusted storyboard that I created to resolve that issue with the ending of our original storyline. This story now is similar to our original idea but we twerked some areas redeveloping the storyline further as we had done more research on different types of films which has inspired us.After watching the movie 'Inception' I got the idea of twisting the original storyline of creating a dream within a dream distorting the reality of our short film

Re-capping

We are starting a new term and therefore we have had a pause in doing our coursework due to the Christmas holidays and so we decided to re-cap the plot to ensure all our group members know that the whole plot is and go over what will happen per scene.

Problems Encountered During the Production

On shooting the first scene we immediately encountered a problem, location. The location for our first scene which happened to be a recurring  location in our production was Victoria Station which we later came to realise that we were not able to film there due to the public and other suspicions, also that we needed to pay and also have a license to film in the station.

Mid way through filming we were stopped by security guards, as we felt this was a particularly good setting for our production we were determined to finish filiming in the station. We continued filming again once they had gone and upon their return we decided to try and negotiate with the security guards which paid off with us convincing them to allow us to film for 5 more minutes which we proceeded in filming for another 30 minutes, ensuring we gathered enough coverage in that time.

Another disruption that caused some problems for us was battery life on the camera, as the camera would be in use by our media class it would tend to be either be near to an empty battery or the battery completely drained and filming would be cut short. To get past this we took the simple steps of having another battery pre-charged and/or having the current battery charged to some extent which has made for longer filming time and less hassle

First Shooting Problem

Subject: Location

Issues with continuity came when it came to location, we had to ensure we used the same science room each time we decided to film. If we did not use the same room when we decide to shoot continuity of the scenes may be under question as it may become apparent that the classrooms are not the same. This could be due to different posters on the walls or the layout of the room being different.

Another issue with shooting in classrooms is that these rooms would be under constant use, to get passed this we have tried to negotiate times when we can use the classroom to shoot. This will then put us under a time constraint as we would need to shoot the necessary coverage before the classroom will be used for an after school activity.

Supervision difficulties became apparent when we found out we could only shoot in science rooms only if there is a science teacher near by to supervise us. An additional problem surrounding this issue is that teachers may have prior engagements and therefore cannot supervise us while shooting. Meaning we cannot shoot during that time, to overcome this we will present a diary to a science teacher and find out when is a suitable time for them to supervise us while we shoot.

Ideas for story board

This is the first draft of our story board for the first scene, where we had all gathered bits of our ideas put together but we plan to do many alterations in the process till we are satisfied.

Problems before shooting (Actors/Actresses)

Before we decided to shoot we encountered some problems. Our first problem was looking for actors that suited particular roles in our movie. We found this difficult because the people we approached either lacked acting ability or wasn't enthusiastic in taking part in our movie. When we did find an actress that agreed to play a part in our movie, the following week she dropped out due to the responsibilities within her role in the movie. In addition to this her timetable was very much different to the groups timetable, so the availability of when the actress was available was somewhat limited. Our group therefore had to find people that had a flexible timetable to film and had a positive attitude towards acting in our film. Firstly, we tried internally in our group and used Vivian in various testing shoots before filming, but the same outcome occurred as she wasn't keen on acting. However luckily Vivian had a friend as an alternative source if something like this happened. Her friend was very keen to act, so our group agreed to use her in our film. In spite of this, we had to be flexible with her time table because she attended a different school and was a consortium, she also had school drama rehearsals as well. To manage this effectively our group decided to film after school about twice or three times a week at 3:30pm to approximately about 6 depending on how much we had to film, this ensured everyone's availability.

Props

For scenes within our movie such as the scene where the montage occurs and the apocalypse scene, our group needed various elements of mise en scene and props in order to make this affective. To present the audience with a clear depiction of who the characters are we needed to add books and make the environment look like a classroom to present to give the audience the idea that these are students. Furthermore to make the apocalypse scene look more realistic we needed props like wood, bottles, rubbish and black cloth to present the idea that something catastrophic has occurred. We obtained these props from the D.T department as they had various scrap pieces of equipment that where very useful during our film production.

Wood
Black Cloth
Bottles
Rubbish

In addition to this, to solve light issues we decided to use a big black board that was available in class. This black board was handy as it covered any parts of light that we didn't want the camera being exposed to, which could affect the effect of the scene.

Our group has intending to make a making of the film to present the props we used during the development of this movie. In this, we will show you some other props that where also included in our film such as guns, cut up jeans and skeletons.

Testing

When testing the use of the monopod during on of our media lessons we found some issues and benefits when using this piece of kit. Firstly, we found that at times without the monopd the camera became very unsteady and shakey handheld, which isn't something we need for some shots in our media film. However, we thought that this kind of unsteady and staggery movements could create a great affect in presenting someone that is unstable or present an event like an earthquake of such.

When we used the monopod we found better results in obtaining a more stabel image. We found this useful especially when performing an over the shoulder shot and following any movements of Miles in this testing video as the camera movements was smooth when moving from different angles. Furthermore, we know that this would benefit us in certain situations during our filming for events where we need to move the camera from side to side.
